Maggie's Angel Friends and Information about AS

There are a surprising number of websites on the internet. Some contain better information than others. In many ways, the most useful to us have been created by parents and family members of other angels. We have started working at gathering these sites together on this links page.

We have grouped the sites by category, such as medical sites, other angels and support organizations. Use the list of categories to the left to jump to the section of links in the table below.

We have found that the internet gives us information overload. We will try to keep up with the latest sources of info, and if you know of a site not on the list, please let us know. We want to present as broad a community of informaiton and contacts in these links as possible

Family Village This virtual communtiy is hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This is a good place to start

Hearts of Courage This site offers support and resources for families with special needs children. The site seems to especially focus on medically fragile children, and children with life-threatening illnesses.

Disability Resources, inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established to promote and improve awareness, availability and accessibility of information that can help people with disabilities live, learn, love, work and play independently.
LD Online Learning disabilities on-line offers a broad range of resources and information about all forms of LD.
NCIP National Center to Improve Practice in Special Education Through Technology, Media and Materials.
Kids Together Inc An organization that is especially focused on issues of inclusion. Based in Pennsylvania.
Our Kids This site was formed by the mother of an Angel. The site hosts a list serve for parents of children with disabilities and includes archives and many other links.
Parents Helping Parents This site has lots of info and resources. PHP's mission is to help children with special needs receive the resources, love, hope, respect, health care, education, and other services they need to reach their full potential by providing them with strong families, dedicated professionals, and responsive systems to serve them. PHP is based in Santa Clara, CA.
Family Voices Family Voices, a national grassroots network of families and friends, advocates for health care services that are family-centered, community-based, comprehensive, coordinated and culturally competent for all children and youth with special health care needs.
Fathers' Network An organization supporting fathers and families raising children with developmental delays and health care needs.
Federation for Children with Special Needs A Parent Training and Information Center, based in Boston.
PACER Center The mission of PACER Center is to expand opportunities and enhance the quality of life of children and young adults with disabilities and their families, based on the concept of parents helping parents. Based in Minneapolis, MN.

Government Agencies

Visit DisabilityInfo.gov This is an interagency web portal to the various sources for the government's disability-related information and resources.
Technical Assistance Alliance for Parent Centers Another Agency under the U.S. Department of Education, it supports community based centers. Parent Training and Information Centers (PTIs) and Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs) in each state provide training and information to parents of infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities and to professionals who work with children.
NICHCY National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities is part of the Office of Special Education Programs as the U.S. Department of Education. Has links to to most agencies in every state.

Medical Information & Sites

ASF Info Facts about AS from the ASF provides a good, up-to-date, summary of the syndrome. Other pages in the ASF site offer info on genetics, seizures and other topics. Most importantly, info from organizations like ASFdon't leave out the spirit of the children even while discussing the heartache of the syndrome.
The Angelman Project The Angelman Project is a comprehensive, searchable, and interactive digital database of videos, texts and photographs, designed to facilitate the diagnosis, treatment, and education of individuals with Angelman Syndrome (AS).
GeneReviews Originally p ublished in 1998 by a medical team from the University of Florida, Gainsville, the site has been revised in September 2004. This site presents a pretty comprehensive overview of the syndrome.
Epilepsy Canada An authoritative site on epilepsy with many resources, links, and sources for support.
