An Mangaire Sugach "Aiidreas McGrath" (Author of Slan le Maighe)
Long years ago, in Gaelic times,
'neath OTuamas welcome thatch,
Came Gaelic poets from near and far,
to call and lift the latch.
To quench their thirst, to make good song,
"Limericks" by the score
In Croom Abu, that Maigue side town,
In history for ever more.
Those bardie throng when times were hard
In O'Tuama's would always score.
There amongst that bardie throng,
was Mangaire's magic spell,
A roll of cloth beneath his arm,
that he had hoped to sell.
Then from a clerics raging wrath
alas he had to go,
Those winding banks he loved so well,
where the glistening waters flow,
O Slan le Maigh was his lament,
as he bid a sad farewell.
He found a home in Kilmallock town,
he spent a lonely spell.
There he sleeps his last sweet sleep,
near Lubaghs winding stream.
Not far from his beloved Maigue,
The River of his dreams.
