Adventures in Parenthood

You never really understand what it means to be a parent until you become one yourself. Maggie is truly and adventure. Right now we are working on the sleep-through-the-night goal. Seh is going on seven months and we are going on no sleep. She is a great baby, and life will be even better when she let's us sleep porperly. We haven't been that good at keeping a baby journal, but this website inspires to record this wonderful adventure. Enjoy the photos and our stories of parenthood.

Building a family website

After getting back from St. Louis from my fathef's funeral, I had agreed to scan his old photos to make copies for the rest of the family. For some time, I have been thinking that a website might be a way to share photos and stories. So whenever Maggie would let me, I practiced with the web making software. My goal with the site is first to share family stories and photos by asking everyone for their bits and pieces every month or two.

Our site also includes pages on our interests in labor and politics. We cannot seperate our lives into work and family realms

Labor Education I began working with stewards and officers in the Teamsters Union on leadership development and other labor education projects. My dad instilled in me a great respect for education, so naturally I took this into the labor movement.

Parenthood Oh how my life has changed since Maggie joined us! On our parenting pages, we talk about our experiences, the advice we found useful and not so useful, and our joy with little Mairead Roisin (Maggie Rose).

Cornell I never really thought I'd ever have the desire or cash to go to an Ivy League. Somehow Cornell got the notion to pay me to work on a PhD, so we came to Ithaca. The school is mostly an HR wasteland, but I get to work with Bronfenbrenner, so it has been a great opportunity.

Family News Building this website has been a labor of love for me. Every month or two I plan to update the Family news page, and use it like a newsletter to send to folks far and wide. I'm learning the whole web design thing as I go along, so suggestions and corrections are more than welcome.

Ireland I keep telling Erin that we will have to live in Ireland when I am done with my PhD. I spent three months there before coming to Cornel, a time that I cherish to this day. If Bush gets re-elected, moving to Europe may be the only sensible thing to do.

Birding I have been an amatuer birder for ten years now, although my bird photography started with our purchase of a digital camera for Maggie. For me, birding connects me with the wildlife and natural areas of the places I travel. It's hard to be overly stressed watching warblers eat catepillars.
